Curriculum
The Montessori Classroom for toddlers (0-3 years) is divided into key areas, namely Practical Life, Sensorial, Language, and introductory Mathematics, based on the research and findings of Dr. Maria Montessori.
All materials in a Montessori environment are made from natural materials. Each material is designed so that a child can check their own work. The children work and learn at their own pace, seeing abstract ideas presented concretely to help them grasp and understand what they are working on.
A Montessori toddler classroom is an extension of the family experience, an intermediate step for the child between the home and formal schooling. The goal is to provide a warm, calm, secure, scientific, and aesthetic environment where the work and creativity of the child will flourish.

Practical Life Area
“Hands are the instruments of man’s intelligence”
– Dr. Maria Montessori
This area comprises activities that a child is familiar with but has not had the opportunity to do for themselves. Young children want to master tasks they see adults performing with ease and have a strong need for independence. Key activities like pouring, folding, spooning, tonging, sweeping, and others foster independence, coordination, order, and concentration. This area is where the child may first choose independent work. The practical life area contains many attractively displayed objects, familiar to the child, including a variety of items commonly used in daily living tasks like eating, dressing, and cleaning. The materials are also designed to help teach skills involved in caring for and respecting the environment and the self, and activities that present Grace and Courtesy.

Sensorial
“The child at age 2 is a sensorial explorer”
– Dr. Maria Montessori
Dr. Montessori saw the senses as the “keys to the universe.” She considered sensorial exploration and manipulation as not only aiding the development of maturing sense organs (eyes, ears, nose, tongue, and skin) but also as a starting point for intellectual growth. By helping children to order, compare, and classify sensory stimulation, their intellectual development is greatly assisted, and future learning becomes more meaningful and useful. Sensorial activities inspire careful observation and call attention to specific qualities of similarities and contrasts. These exercises tend to fascinate children because they are challenging and meaningful, preparing them for future learning in math, language, and making sense of life’s experiences.

Language
In the Montessori environment, children are surrounded by rich, precise, and articulate language through conversations, picture cards, storytelling, and music. Many activities foster vocabulary development and communication skills. The language area includes materials that help children explore sounds and letters, gradually preparing them for writing and reading. Activities for fine motor control are also present to prepare the child's hand for writing. The process of learning how to read should be as natural and simple as learning how to speak, starting with sounds and letters and moving towards words and sentences.

Mathematics

All human beings are born with a mathematical mind. The core purpose of the materials used in Mathematics for toddlers is to lay the foundation for later cognitive development and prepare them for the gradual transition to abstract thinking. Children work with concrete materials to experience concepts like counting, quantities, and basic number recognition, which are presented in an engaging manner. This approach ensures that children learn through understanding, instilling a love for the subject.
Art Exploration
At Little Amigos Montessori, we encourage children to express themselves through art, fostering creativity and imagination.
Musical Journey
Music is a vibrant part of our daily routine. We engage children with a diverse selection of songs in both English and Hindi throughout the year
Movement & Yoga
Engage in the joy of movement and discover mindfulness through yoga. Our program emphasizes the importance of physical activity and wellbeing.
Phonics
We prioritize phonics over simply teaching the alphabet because it provides a deeper understanding of language. Phonics focuses on the sounds that letters and combinations of letters make, which is essential for decoding words and developing reading skills.
Food Prep
Food preparation is an integral part of our curriculum, teaching children valuable life skills and promoting healthy eating habits. Through hands-on activities, children learn to wash, peel, cut, and serve a variety of fruits, vegetables, and other simple snacks
Sensorial Explorations
Through exploring materials like sand, water, clay, and various textures, children develop fine motor skills, creativity, and cognitive abilities
